Came to curse but ended up blessing

Came to curse but ended up blessing

Someone came with bad intent to do harm, but in the end their actions brought blessing. (An expression derived from the biblical story of Balaam, who was summoned by Balak king of Moab to curse the Israelites, but in the end he blessed them.)

("And now, please come, curse this people for me for they are too mighty... for I know that whomever you bless is blessed, and whomever you curse is cursed... And Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel... and he uttered his parable... How goodly are your tents, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel" - Numbers 22-24 (Balak to Balaam), and thus: "Balaam came to curse Israel, but the Holy One, blessed be He, did not allow him; instead, He blessed them, as it is said: 'But the Lord your God did not want to listen to Balaam'" - Midrash Tanchuma (Buber), Parashat Vayikra, section 18, and also: "Do not desire my longing, and he will rule over me, he sought to curse and ended up blessing the gentle man, so that he would not fear to know" - Tchiyeh Bat Oren, "She Finally Speaks")
