Blessed is He Who Revives the Dead

Blessed is He Who Revives the Dead

Blessed is He Who Revives the Dead is a blessing recited in gratitude and acknowledgment of God who has the power to revive the dead, that is, to restore life to the deceased. It is sometimes said upon seeing a person one has not seen for a long period.

("Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi said: One who sees his friend after thirty days says: 'Blessed is He who has kept us alive, sustained us, and brought us to this time.' After twenty months he says: 'Blessed is He Who Revives the Dead.' Rabbi said: The dead does not cease to be remembered from the heart except after twenty months, as it is said (Psalms 88): 'I am forgotten as one dead; I have become like a useless vessel.'")
