Figuratively: in a hidden way according to how the words were spoken. Considering and giving meaning also to what was not explicitly said. Refers to what can be understood from the words even if not stated clearly (a “line” refers to things arranged in a straight line, like lines in written text).

בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: בְּאוֹפֶן נִסְתָּר עַל פִּי הַצּוּרָה בָּהֶ נֶאֱמְרוּ הַדְּבָרִים. תּוֹךְ הִתְיַחֲסוּת וּמַתָּן מַשְׁמָעוּת גַּם לַדְּבָרִים שֶׁלֹּא נֶאֱמְרוּ בְּמְפֹרָשׁ. כִּינוּי לְמַה שֶּׁנִּתָּן לְהָבִין מֵהַדְּבָרִים גַּם אִם לֹא נֶאֱמַר בְּאוֹפֶן בָּרוּר.
