Synagogue

A building used as a place of prayer for Jews.

("The synagogue is not sold except on condition that if they wish, they may return it – words of Rabbi Meir, and the sages say it may be sold in a permanent sale except for four things: the bathhouse, the burski, the immersion pool, and the water house" – Megillah 3:3, and also: "He now remembers how delighted his heart was at the sight of Jerusalem itself, its streets and houses, its synagogues and study halls" – Y. Burla, Longings, 55, and also: "And the Jews gathered in the synagogues, read Psalms, poured out their speech before God, and decreed a public fast" – Mordechai Ben Yehezkel, Book of Tales Part Four, The Cotton and the Adventures of One King, 282)
