Cemetery / Graveyard

Cemetery / Graveyard

A figurative term for a cemetery (literally: “meeting place for all living”).

("For I know that You will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living" – Job 30:23, and also: "How can one believe there is a house appointed for all living and reward and punishment after death? And how do they judge in commandments that contradict each other, like circumcision with Shabbat, and Passover with Shabbat" – R. Judah Halevi, Sefer HaKuzari, Article 3, 35, and also: "Because he does not see the deceased on the bed, when they carry him to the house appointed for all living" – Mordechai Ben Yehezkel, Book of Tales Part Four, Leviya, 70)
