The pupil of the eye. Figuratively: something extremely precious to the heart. Something most important, like the pupil of the eye (bava means 'ball' or 'orb').

אִישׁוֹן הָעַיִן. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: דָּבָר הַיָּקָר לְלֵב בְּמִדָּה גְּבוֹהָה בְּיוֹתֵר. דָּבָר הֶחָשׁוּב מִכָּל כְּמוֹ אִישׁוֹן הָעַיִן (בָּבָה מַשְׁמָע גַּלְגַּל).
