The priestly benediction

The priestly benediction

A blessing which the priests are commanded to bless the people of Israel. The blessing is recited daily during prayers in the synagogue and consists of three verses as detailed in Numbers 6:24-26: "The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace."

("The priestly benediction: In the country, it is said as three blessings, and in the Temple, a single blessing. In the Temple one pronounces the Name as written, while in the country by its appellation. In the country, priests raise their hands opposite their shoulders, and in the Temple on the heads except the High Priest, who does not raise his hands above the plate (tzitz)." - Sotah 7d:4-6)
