Majority Opinion

Majority Opinion

The opinion accepted by the majority. The expression is common in the context of the opinions of the judges who sat in judgment (the majority opinion is considered the decisive opinion, this according to the verse in Exodus 23:2: "After the majority to incline").

("Even if someone says a vow was annulled by many—he has grounds for annulment—but according to the majority opinion—he does not have annulment"—Bekhorot 46a, and similarly: "And with the death of Joshua, he delivered to the elders what he received from the interpreters, and what was renewed in his time and there was no dispute in it, and what there was dispute about and the halacha was decided according to the majority opinion"—The Rambam's Introduction to the Mishnah.)
