Sole Judge
A judge who hears the case alone without other judges alongside him.
("He used to say: Do not be a sole judge, for there is no sole judge except one, and do not say 'Accept my opinion' since they are the majority and not you" - Avot 4:9, and likewise: "It was taught in a baraita of Rabbi Yosef that he had a sole expert who judged alone" - Tosafot Rosh, Tractate Sanhedrin 5a)
