("Rabbi Yishmael said: He who desires that the wise should engage in monetary laws, of which you have no greater expertise in the Torah than they, for they are like a flowing spring, and he who desires to engage in monetary laws should employ Shimon ben Nanas" - Bava Batra 10b-9, and likewise: "Anyone fit to adjudicate matters of life is fit to adjudicate monetary laws" - Sanhedrin 37b.)

דִּינִים וְחֻקִּים הָעוֹסְקִים בְּעִנְיָנִים כַּסְפִּיִּים וּרְכוּשִׁיִּים, וְזֹאת לְהַבְדִּיל מְעַנְיְנִים הָעוֹסְקִים בַּעֲנִישָׁה פְּלִילִית וְחַיֵּי אָדָם.
("אָמַר רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל הָרוֹצֶה שֶׁיַּחְכִּים יַעֲסֹק בְּדִינֵי מָמוֹנוֹת שֶׁאֵין לְךָ מִקְצוֹעַ בַּתּוֹרָה גָּדוֹל מֵהֶן שֶׁהֵן כְּמַעְיָן הַנּוֹבֵעַ וְהָרוֹצֶה שֶׁיַּעֲסֹק בְּדִינֵי מָמוֹנוֹת יְשַׁמֵּשׁ אֶת שִׁמְעוֹן בֶּן נַנָּס"- בָּבָא בָּתְרָא י ח-ט, וְכֵן:"כָּל הָרָאוּי לָדוּן דִּינֵי נְפָשׁוֹת רָאוּי לָדוּן דִּינֵי מָמוֹנוֹת"- סַנְהֶדְרִין כז ע"ב)
