The Torah spoke in the language of the common people
The Torah at times employs exaggerated or hyperbolic language.
("‘Pour the continual offering into a golden cup,’ Rava said: exaggeration. Rabbi Immi said: The Torah spoke in the language of the common people; the prophets spoke in the language of the common people; the sages spoke in the language of the common people... The Torah spoke in the language of the common people (Deuteronomy 1): great cities and fortified places in the heavens. The prophets spoke in the language of the common people (1 Kings 1) and the earth was split at their voice (the earth was split at their voice). Rabbi Yitzchak bar Nachmani said in the name of Shmuel: In three places the sages spoke in the language of the common people, these are: apple, vine, and blanket. Apple — this is what they said; vine — it is taught: a vine of gold was standing at the entrance of the Temple." - Chullin 90b)
