No person lives together with a snake in one basket

No person lives together with a snake in one basket

A person cannot live together with a snake in the same place. Figuratively: One cannot or is unwilling to live or remain together with a dangerous or cunning person from whom one must be constantly wary or afraid (in rabbinic language, 'kefifah' means basket).

("Anyone who knows that his wife does not separate challah must go and separate after her. They said to him: No person lives with a snake in one basket" – Ketubot 72a)
