We do not heed a divine voice

We do not heed a divine voice

We do not listen to a voice that comes, as it were, from heaven regarding the determination of halacha (Jewish law). The rule is that in all matters of clarifying Jewish law, one should rely on human, rational tools according to the interpretive principles by which the Torah is studied.

("Rabbi Yirmiya said: Since the Torah has already been given at Mount Sinai, we do not heed a divine voice, for it is already written at Sinai in the Torah (Exodus 23): 'After the majority you shall incline.' - Bava Metzia 59b")
