A nation weary from Torah study is not handed over to its oppressor
When the people of Israel study Torah to the point of exhaustion, they are strong and able to withstand their enemy. By extension: cultural resilience preserves the spirit of the people in times of crisis.

עִם יִשְׂרָאֵל כְּשֶׁלּוֹמֵד הַרְבֵּה תּוֹרָה עַד כְּדֵי עֲיֵפוּת הֲרֵי שֶׁהוּא חָסוֹן וּמְסֻגָּל לַעֲמֹד מוּל אוֹיֵב. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: חֹסֶן תַּרְבּוּתִי שׁוֹמֵר עַל רוּחַ הָעָם בְּעֵת מַשְׁבֵּר.
