The self-taught is not comparable to one who learns from his teacher
Learning with a teacher is preferable to self-study. Studying with a teacher allows for sharpening the subject through conversation and questions, and improves the ability to remember the material learned.

הַלִּמּוּד בְּעֶזְרַת מוֹרֶה עָדִיף מִלִּמּוּד עַצְמִי. לִמּוּד עִם מוֹרֶה מְאַפְשֵׁר חִדּוּד הַנּוֹשֵׂא בְּאֶמְצָעוּת שִׂיחָה וּשְׁאֵלוֹת וּמְשַׁפֵּר אֵת יְכֹלֶת הִזְכִּירָה שֶׁל הַחֹמֶר הַנִּלְמָד.
