Buy the truth, and do not sell it
A proverb in praise of truth and knowledge.
("Buy the truth, and do not sell it; wisdom, instruction, and understanding" – Proverbs 23:23. And similarly: "How do we know that if you cannot learn for free, you may pay a teacher?" Scripture says: "Buy the truth." And how do we know that one should not say: Just as I learned for payment, so I will teach for payment? Scripture says: "Buy the truth, and do not sell it" – Tractate Bikkurim, 27a.)

פִּתְגָּם בְּשִׁבְחָהּ שֶׁל הָאֱמֶת וַחֲשִׁיבוּתָהּ הַגְּדוֹלָה.
("אֱמֶת קְנֵה וְאַל תִּמְכֹּר חָכְמָה וּמוּסָר וּבִינָה"- מִשְׁלֵי כג כג, וְכֵן:"וּמִנַּיִן שֶׁאִם לֹא מָצָא בְּחִנָּם שֶׁיְּלַמֵּד בְּשָׂכָר? תַּלְמוּד לֵאמֹר:"אֱמֶת קָנָה". וּמִנַּיִן שֶׁלֹּא יֹאמַר: כְּשֵׁם שֶׁלְּמַדְתִּיהָ בְּשָׂכָר כָּךְ אֲלַמְּדֶנָּה בְּשָׂכָר ? תַּלְמוּד לֵאמֹר:"אֱמֶת קְנֵה וְאַל תִּמְכֹּר"- מַסֶּכֶת בִּכּוּרִים מָט ע"א)
