Greater is he who acts out of love than he who acts out of fear
A person who performs their duty out of love is greater than one who acts solely from fear of punishment. Action motivated by love is more significant than actions done under compulsion.
("Greater is he who acts out of love than he who acts out of fear, for this depends on a thousand generations, and that depends on thousands of generations. Here it is written (Exodus 20) 'for those who love Me and keep My commandments for a thousand generations,' and there it is written (Deuteronomy 7) 'and those who keep His commandments for a thousand generations.' There too it is written: 'to those who love Him and keep His commandments for a thousand generations!'" - Sotah 50a)
