Coals burning slowly/ glowing coals
Coals that are still burning in their inner part. Pieces of wood with a small fire still inside them (Glowing coals emit a faint sound reminiscent of a whisper).
("And he took a full pan of burning coals" (Vayikra 16:12) - Jonathan's Targum: 'And he surrounded and filled a pan full of coals burning with fire.' Also (Berakhot 53b): The Rabbis taught: Glowing coals - one blesses over them; dumb coals - one does not bless. What is meant by 'glowing'? Rav Chisda said: Whenever one inserts a twig inside and it ignites from it. Also: 'And the old white man descends... and the curls are curled... and the eyes have the life of a dove, truly glowing coals' (Y.L. Peretz / Chaim Yonah Vitles, 42). גֶּחָלִים שֶׁעֲדַיִן בּוֹעֲרוֹת בְּחֶלְקָן הַפְּנִימִי. גִּזְרֵי עֵץ שֶׁאֵשׁ קְטַנָּה עֲדַיִן בְּקִרְבָּם (גֶּחָלִים לוֹחֲשׁוֹת מַשְׁמִיעוֹת קוֹל חַלָּשׁ הַמַּזְכִּיר לְחִישָׁה).
