A Man Among Men, A Hero Among Heroes
A true man. A compliment to a person possessing achievements or one who knows how to be honorable and to carry out tasks successfully.
(“‘And You will give Your maidservant seed of men’ — what is ‘seed of men’? Rav said: a man among men (an outstanding man). And Shmuel said: seed who will anoint two men — and who are they? Saul and David. And Rabbi Yoḥanan said: seed equal to two men — and who are they? Moses and Aaron.” (Berakhot 31b) “You further asked me to clarify and enlighten my eyes regarding the ban that the community enacted that they should not give wine to gentiles, and they made a fence because there was turmoil in the city and the community feared and imposed a ban to summon; and meanwhile one of the townspeople came before the community, and he was a man among men, and he appeased the community to release the ban for him alone, and they negotiated the matter.” (Responsa of the Rashbash, no. 516))

גֶּבֶר אֲמִתִּי. מַחְמָאָה לְאָדָם בַּעַל הֶשֵּׂגִים אוֹ שֶׁיּוֹדֵעַ לִהְיוֹת הוֹגֵן וּלְבַצֵּעַ מְשִׂימוֹת בְּצוּרָה מֻצְלַחַת.
