Gezerah Shavah analogy/ inference
An analogy or inference based on the rules of logical reasoning. A comparison or analogy. Drawing a conclusion from equating two similar matters. It is one of the thirteen principles by which the Torah is expounded.
(The House of Hillel said: Gezerah Shavah [applies] to Challah and gifts. A gift to the priest and Terumah is a gift to the priest. Just as the gifts are led, so too shall the Terumah be led - Tosefta Tractate Beitza (Yom Tov) (Liberman) Chapter 1, and likewise: Rabbi Ishmael says that the Torah is expounded by thirteen measures: light and strict, from Gezerah Shavah, from the 'father-building' from one scripture, from the 'father-building' from two scriptures, from general and particular, from particular and general, from general and particular where you only judge like the particular, from a general that requires a particular and a particular that requires a general - Sifra Baraitha of Rabbi Ishmael Parashah 1, and also: The honor of the sage adopts exaggerated language: And is this Gezerah Shavah? David King of Israel and the prince of Pharaoh in the kingdom of Ishmael? - Y. Burla / Kisufim, 42, and also: The creator is according to his unique way and there is no ruling upon him from analogy and Gezerah Shavah - B. Yalik / Mendel and the Three Cities, and also: He desires from it and from it, and draws and goes according to his taste, debates, lifts, gives and judges Gezerah Shavah and likens and scrutinizes, and hangs on every thorn a string of strings of laws and deep innovations - H. Hazaz / Dorot HaRishonim, 16)
