The one who pursues honor, honor flees from him/ honour flees from its pursuer/ honour follows him who flees it
By analogy: A person interested in obtaining honor prevents honor from being his own. Behavior that pursues honor arouses a feeling of lack of honor on the part of the one who so behaves.

בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: אָדָם הַמְּעֻנְיָן לְהַשִּׂיג כָּבוֹד מוֹנֵעַ מֵהָעַצְמוֹ כָּבוֹד. הִתְנַהֲגוּת רוֹדֶפֶת כָּבוֹד מְעוֹרֶרֶת תְּחוּשַׁת חֹסֶר כָּבוֹד כְּלַפֵּי הַנֹּהַג כָּךְ.
