The pairing between the sons of man was done by divine providence.

הַזִּוּוּג בֵּין בְּנֵי הָאָדָם נַעֲשֶׂה ע"י הַהַשְׁגָּחָה הָאֱלֹהִית.
("כִּי שֵׁשֶׁת יָמִים עָשָׂה ה' אֶת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֶת הָאָרֶץ- אָמְרָה לוֹ, מָה הוּא עוֹשֶׂה מֵאוֹתָהּ שָׁעָה וְעַד עַכְשָׁו?- אָמַר לָהּ הקב"ה יוֹשֵׁב וּמְזַוֵּג זִוּוּגִים: בִּתּוֹ שֶׁל פְּלוֹנִי לִפְלֹנִי, אִשְׁתּוֹ שֶׁל פְּלוֹנִי לִפְלוֹנִי, מָמוֹנוֹ שֶׁל פְּלוֹנִי לִפְלוֹנִי"- בְּרֵאשִׁית רַבָּה (וִילְנָא) פָּרָשַׁת וְיָצָא פָּרָשָׁה סָח)
