He cast doubt on the ways of the Creator's providence over His world. He wondered whether God was managing His world in righteousness.

הֵטִיל סָפֵק לְגַבֵּי דַּרְכֵי הַשְׁגָּחַת הַבּוֹרֵא עַל עוֹלָמוֹ. עָלוּ בּוֹ הִרְהוּרִים אִם ה' מְנַהֵל עוֹלָמוֹ בְּצֶדֶק.
