He risked his life. He put his soul at great risk. He gave up his soul.

סִכֵּן אֶת חַיָּיו. הֶעֱמִיד אֶת נַפְשׁוֹ בְּסַכָּנָה רַבָּה. מָסַר אֶת נַפְשׁוֹ.
