The world cannot exist without the perfumer and without the tanner
The world needs both the perfumer and the tanner — metaphorically, every trade and profession has its place and importance in society.
("Rabbi said: The world cannot exist without the perfumer and without the tanner; happy is he whose trade is that of the perfumer, and woe to him whose trade is that of the tanner" – Pesachim 65a. הָעוֹלָם זָקוּק גַּם לְמוֹכֵר בְּשָׂמִים וְגַם לְפוֹשֵׁט וּמְעַבֵּד עוֹרוֹת בַּעֲלֵי חַיִּים. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: הָעוֹלָם זָקוּק לְכָל בַּעֲלֵי הַמִּקְצוֹעַ הַשּׁוֹנִים, יֵשׁ חֲשִׁיבוּת לְכֻלָּם.
