The Torah is attained through study together. Studying with a partner (chavruta) makes it easier to understand and remember the material. Through group discussion, the topics of study are understood in depth, the learning is deepened, and it is absorbed into memory.

("Rabbi Yehuda further expounded on the honor of Torah and taught (Deuteronomy 27): 'Be attentive and hear, Israel'... 'Be attentive'—form groups and engage in Torah, for the Torah is acquired only in a group"—Berakhot 63b. Similarly: "A great rule in the Torah, that the Torah is acquired only in a group. And who is wise? One who learns from every person.
