It is not customary for a guest to bring an additional guest on their own initiative, without prior approval from the host.

(As written in the Book of Ben Sira: 'I have weighed everything in the balance and found nothing lighter than company, lighter than company—a groom living in his father-in-law's house, lighter than a groom—a guest bringing a guest, lighter than a guest—he who answers before he hears; as it is said (Proverbs 18): He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.'—Bava Batra 98b.
