אִם רָעֵב שֹׂנַאֲךָ הַאֲכִלֵהוּ לָחֶם וְאִם צָמֵא הַשְׁקֵהוּ מָיִם
פִּתְגָּם הַמַּטִּיף שֶׁלֹּא לִשְׁמֹר טִינָה לָאוֹיֵב וּלְנַסּוֹת לַעֲזֹר לוֹ כְּשֶׁהוּא בְּצָרָה. הָעֶזְרָה תִּגְרֹם לוֹ לַעֲרֹךְ חֶשְׁבּוֹן נֶפֶשׁ עִם עַצְמוֹ וְכָךְ גַּם אוּלַי הוּא יָבִין שֶׁנִּתָּן לְהִתְפַּיֵּס אִתְּךָ (עַל הַצִּוּוּי לַעֲזֹר גַּם לְשׂוֹנֵא רְאֵה: שְׁמוֹת כג ה).

הגדרה (אנגלית)
A proverb teaching not to bear a grudge against your enemy and to try to help him when he is in trouble. Helping him will lead him to self-reflection, and perhaps he will understand that reconciliation is possible with you (regarding the commandment to help even your enemy, see: Exodus 23:5).
