The commandments of the Torah were intended so that a person would be able to live a good life and not die in vain. There is no danger to life in fulfilling a commandment, for the value of human life comes before all else.

(And you shall keep My statutes and My judgments, which a man shall do, and live in them: I am the Lord - in Leviticus 18:5, and so on: "All the transgressions in the Torah, of which I say to a man, 'Do not kill,' he shall do them, and he shall not kill, except for the service of a stranger, and for the discovery of sins, and for the shedding of blood... Rabbi Yishmael said: How is it that if they say to a man, 'Do not kill,' he shall not commit any transgression, and he shall not commit any transgression, except for the service of a stranger, and for the shedding of blood?')
