A man smells the etrog—he enjoys it, and the etrog loses nothing
Metaphorically: Just as the etrog (citron) is not diminished when someone smells it, so too a person can share knowledge, wisdom, or talents with others without losing anything themselves — one benefits, and the other loses nothing.

בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: כְּשֵׁם שֶׁהָאֶתְרוֹג אֵינוֹ מִתְמַעֵט כְּשֶׁמְּרִיחִים מִמֶּנּוּ, כָּךְ אָדָם יָכוֹל לְהַעֲנִיק מִיְּדִיעוֹתָיו וְכִשּׁוּרָיו לַאֲחֵרִים מִבְּלִי שֶׁיִּגְרַע מִמֶּנּוּ דָּבָר. זֶה נֶהֱנֶה וְזֶה אֵינוֹ חָסֵר.
