A person who has lost something tends to search for his lost item. By analogy: the man is the one who customarily pursues the woman.
(Because it is the way of a man to pursue a woman, and it is not the way of a woman to pursue a man. The analogy: for a man who lost an item, who returns after whom? אָדָם שֶׁאִבֵּד דְּבַר מָה נוֹהֵג לְחַפֵּשׂ אַחַר אֲבֵדָתוֹ. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: הַגֶּבֶר הוּא זֶה שֶׁנּוֹהֵג לְחַזֵּר אַחַר הָאִשָּׁה.
