Weeping for generations / enduring lament
Crying that continues from generation to generation. By extension: a trouble without solution, causing prolonged suffering for future generations as well.
(“And the whole congregation lifted up their voices and the people wept that night. Rabbi said in the name of Rabbi Yochanan: that night was the night of Tisha B’Av. בֶּכִי שֶׁנִּמְשַׁךְ דּוֹר אַחֲרֵי דּוֹר. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: צָרָה שֶׁאֵין לָהּ פִּתְרוֹן וְשֶׁיַּמְשִׁיכוּ לִסְבֹּל מִמֶּנָּה זְמַן רַב גַּם הַדּוֹרוֹת הַבָּאִים.
