Where the repentant sinners stand, the wholly righteous may not
Repentant sinners occupy a higher spiritual level than the wholly righteous. Those who return in repentance have made a special and difficult effort to change their way of life for the better and are therefore worthy of greater respect than a righteous person who was virtuous from the beginning.

בַּעֲלֵי הַתְּשׁוּבָה מְצוּיִים בְּדַרְגָּה גְּבוֹהָה יוֹתֵר מֵהַצַּדִּיקִים. הַחוֹזְרִים בִּתְשׁוּבָה הִתְאַמְּצוּ מַאֲמָץ מְיֻחָד וְקָשֶׁה כְּדֵי לְשַׁנּוֹת אֶת אֹרַח חַיֵּיהֶם לְטוֹבָה וְלָכֵן רְאוּיִים לְהַעֲרָכָה גְּדוֹלָה יוֹתֵר מִצַּדִּיק שֶׁחֻנַּךְ כַּיָּאוּת מִלְּכַתְּחִלָּה.
