A person cannot listen to two people speaking at the same time and understand both of them.

("Two translators may not speak while one reads; you have a quarrel on account of the blessing, but this is because two voices cannot enter into one ear" – Jerusalem Talmud, Eruvin 5,3.)

אֵין אָדָם יָכוֹל לְהַאֲזִין לִשְׁנֵי אֲנָשִׁים הַמְּדַבְּרִים בּוֹ זְמַנִּית וּלְהָבִין אֶת תֹּכֶן דִּבְרֵיהֶם.

("לֹא יְהוּ שְׁנַיִם מְתַרְגְּמִין וְאֶחָד קוֹרֵא, אִית לְךָ מֵמֵר מִפְּנֵי הַבְּרָכָה, אֶלָּא מִשּׁוּם שֶׁאֵין שְׁנֵי קוֹלוֹת נִכְנָסִין לְתוֹךְ אֹזֶן אַחַת" – יְרוּשַׁלְמִי ה, ג).
