Ban imposed by Rabbi Gershon on bigamy/ Harem, our enemy, Gershom
A prohibition established by our Rabbi Gershon (11th century) and according to which a man is forbidden to have more than two wives, according to the saying that according to the word, it is permissible according to the conduct. As the law forbids a married man from having more than one wife.

אִיסּוּר שֶׁקָּבַע רַבֵּינוּ גֵּרְשׁוֹן (שֶׁחַי בַּמֵּאָה י- י"א) וּלְפִיו אָסוּר לְאִישׁ לָשֵׂאת יוֹתֵר מִשְּׁתֵּי נָשִׁים, לַמְרוֹת שֶׁעַל פִּי הַדָּבָר מֻתָּר ע"פ הַהֲלָכָה. כַּיּוֹם הַחֹק אוֹסֵר נִשּׂוּאִין לְיוֹתֵר מֵאִשָּׁה אַחַת.
