Like Fire in Tow/ as destructive as fire to the flax

Just as a fire spreads rapidly when it is burning straw (the burning of fragments of flax or hemp. It is believed that the first source of the expression is in the verse in Isaiah 1:1: "And the fire was for burning, and its work for sparks, and both of them burned together, and there was no quenching").

("Is it possible for fire to be in tow and not flare up?"—he said to him: The Torah testified about us: "A garden enclosed with roses," that even like a garden enclosed with roses they will not make breaches in it"—Sanhedrin 37a; and likewise: "Fasting is good for a dream, like fire in tow," said Rabbi Yosef, and on that very day, even on Shabbat"—Genesis Rabbah (Vilna), Lech Lecha, section 44)
