Ears will tingle

Ears will tingle

Figuratively: the thing will shock the listener. An expression used to convey horror, fear, or deep disturbance at what is being said (the verb tetzilena means “to tremble” or “to resound with a quivering sound”).

("And the Lord said to Samuel: Behold, I am about to do something in Israel at which the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle" – 1 Samuel 3:11; and similarly: "Indeed, this is an evil report, at which whoever hears it will have both his ears tingle" – Maimonides, Letter to Yemen; "And it was written in the community ledger, in his fine style… that whoever heard it would have both his ears tingle" – H. Hazaz, Broken Millstones, p. 52.)
