Sodom and Gomorrah (סְדוֹם וַעֲמֹורָה)

Sodom and Gomorrah

The names of the two cities that were destroyed because of their sins, as recounted in Genesis 19. Figuratively: a term for a place of depravity lacking all religious or social morality.

("And the LORD said: The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and their sin is very grave" — Genesis 18:20; and likewise: "Regarding the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, he wrote that this is the greatest of sins if they made laws for decorum and religion that were not good" — Responsa Si'ach Yitzchak, siman Tav-Lamed-Vav)
