Proven Segulah
A remedy or trait whose effectiveness has been tested and found to be beneficial. Any kind of practice in medicine or something used 'against the evil eye'.
('I saw in an old manuscript book that our teacher Peretz, of blessed memory, wrote that on Shabbat, the holy names are a proven segulah for a woman in labor... תְּרוּפָה אוֹ תְּכוּנָה שֶׁנִּבְדְּקָה יְעִילוּתָהּ וְנִמְצְאָה מוֹעִילָה. מַעֲשֶׂה כָּלְשֶׁהוּ בִּתְחוּם הָרְפוּאוֹת אוֹ 'כְּנֶגֶד עַיִן הָרַע'.
