Better Ten Handbreadths Standing Than a Hundred Cubits Falling/ A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
By way of metaphor: it is preferable to have a little that is secure and stable rather than a great deal that is uncertain. “Better one bird in the hand than two on the tree.” (A handbreadth is a unit of length, about the width of a hand. A cubit is a unit of length from the elbow to the tip of the finger, about half a meter.)
