Arbor Day (15th of Shebat)/ Tu Bishvat, the Fifteenth of Shevat

The New Year for trees. The holiday of the trees, on which it is customary in Israel to plant trees.

("It is clear that they did not take root before the Omer, and they are forbidden until the Omer comes and permits them; rather, it is certain that this applies to fruits that ripened before Tu Bishvat, as opposed to fruits that ripened after Tu Bishvat" — Jerusalem Talmud, Bikkurim 1:6; and also: "There are four new years. On the first of Nisan, the new year for kings and festivals ... On the first of Shevat, the new year for the tree, according to the words of Beit Shammai; Beit Hillel say, on the fifteenth of it" — Rosh Hashanah 1:1)
