Raw vegetables (יָרָק חַי)

Raw vegetables

Fresh, uncooked vegetables.

('They are trusted regarding raw vegetables and are not trusted regarding cooked [vegetables]' — Mishnah Peah 4:4, and likewise: 'Liver is good for the teeth and hard for the intestines; leeks are hard for the teeth and good for the intestines. All raw vegetables are purgative, and all small ones are constipating... Cabbage is for nourishment and beets for healing; woe to the house through which the turnip passes' — Berachot 44b)
