The belief that the Shekhinah (Divine Presence) dwells with the people of Israel in all their dispersed exiles. By analogy: the exile of the people of Israel from their land.

(Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai taught: In every place where Israel was exiled, the exile of the Shekhinah is with them. They were exiled to Egypt—and the exile of the Shekhinah was with them" (Jerusalem Taanit 1:1). Similarly: "Come and see how beloved Israel is before the Holy One, blessed be He: in every place they were exiled—the Shekhinah is with them. They were exiled to Egypt—the Shekhinah is with them... They were exiled to Babylon—the Shekhinah is with them" (Megillah 29a). Also: "There is a melody of complaint and weeping. But what does it mourn? For the sin committed, for the destruction of the Temple, the exile of the Shekhinah, for our poverty and lowliness..." (Y.L. Peretz / The Cycle of a Melody))
