A person who sows — may or may not eat
Success does not always await at the end of every effort or action. There is always uncertainty regarding the outcome of one’s endeavor.
("Rabbi Elazar said: Acts of kindness are greater than charity, as it is stated (Hosea 10): 'Sow for yourselves in righteousness, reap according to mercy.' If a person sows — he may or may not eat; but if he reaps — he surely eats." - Sukkah 49b)

לֹא תָּמִיד הַהַצְלָחָה מַמְתִּינָה בְּסוֹף כָּל מַאֲמָץ אוֹ מַעֲשֶׂה. תָּמִיד קַיֶּמֶת אִי וַדָּאוּת בְּנוֹגֵעַ לַתּוֹצָאָה שֶׁל הַמַּאֲמָץ.
