A thing that does not exist at all in reality. Figuratively: a theoretical or non-practical matter.
(And Rabbi Meir reasoned: Does a person dedicate a thing that does not come into the world? And the Talmud taught: He who says to a woman 'Behold, you are betrothed to me after I convert or after you convert'... Rabbi Meir says: She is indeed betrothed! -Ketubot 56b)

דָּבָר שֶׁאֵינֶנּוּ כְּלָל בַּמְּצִיאוּת. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: דָּבָר תֵּאוֹרֵתִי אוֹ לֹא מַעֲשִׂי.
