Roundabout way/ indirectly circuitously
A twisted path. A way that is not straight (the word עֲקַלָּתוֹן originates from the name of the serpent appearing in Isaiah 27:1).
(Rav Ashi said: Any side path is a roundabout way, close to this and far from that" - Bava Batra 110a, and likewise: "My paths are twisted - if I try to go out, I am not able to go through the paved roads in a straight way because of enemies, so I go out by a roundabout way" - Rashi, Lamentations 3:9).
