There is no earlier or later in the Torah

There is no earlier or later in the Torah

An important principle in interpreting the Torah, according to which the events recounted in the Torah are not necessarily presented in the chronological order in which they occurred.

("This section about the Tabernacle on Yom Kippur itself, even though the section about the Tabernacle precedes the incident of the Golden Calf. Rabbi Yehuda bar Shalom said: There is no earlier or later in the Torah, as it is said (Proverbs 5): 'Her ways wander, you do not know them'—the paths and sections of the Torah are unsettled." — Midrash Tanchuma (Warsaw) Terumah 8; similarly: "And Isaac expired—there is no earlier or later in the Torah. Joseph's sale preceded Isaac's death by twelve years." — Rashi on Genesis 35:29)
