There is no earlier or later in the Torah
An important principle in interpreting the Torah, according to which the events recounted in the Torah are not necessarily presented in the chronological order in which they occurred.

כְּלָל חָשׁוּב בְּפַרְשָׁנוּת הַתּוֹרָה וּלְפִיו הַדְּבָרִים הַמְּסֻפָּרִים בַּתּוֹרָה אֵינָם בְּהֶכְרֵחַ לְפִי הַסֵּדֶר הַכְּרוֹנוֹלוֹגִי שֶׁל הִתְרַחֲשׁוּתָם.
