corner-stone
A stone (often laid ceremonially) as the foundation of a building being constructed (literally: a foundation stone). Figuratively: something fundamental and essential.

אֶבֶן הַמֻּנַּחַת (בְּטִקְסִיּוּת סִמְלִית לְעִתִּים) כִּיסוֹד לְבִנְיָן שֶׁמַּתְחִילִים לִבְנוֹת (מִלּוּלִית: אֶבֶן יְסוֹד). בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: דָּבָר יְסוֹדִי וְחָשׁוּב.
