It is shameful for the lion if he weeps before a fox. By analogy: it is embarrassing or humiliating when a person of high status finds himself weeping before an ordinary person.

בּוּשָׁה לָאַרְיֵה אִם יִבְכֶּה בִּפְנֵי שׁוּעָל. בְּהַשְׁאָלָה: הַדָּבָר מֵבִיךְ אוֹ מַשְׁפִּיל כְּשֶׁאָדָם בַּעַל מַעֲמָד גָּבוֹהַּ מוֹצֵא עַצְמוֹ בּוֹכֶה בִּפְנֵי סְתָם אָדָם.
