To remind someone of a past punishment
He was given a reminder of the punishment he had received in the past. He hinted to him that he should be punished a second time.
("Amalek dwells in the land of the Negev. Why should they think of opening up a parable about Amalek, like a child who is sick and has a sore throat? And when they try to scare him, they remind him of the sore throat that has struck him. Thus was Amalek a sore throat to Israel" - In the Wilderness of Rabbah (Vilna), Parashat Shelah, Parasha 16:18)
